What's it about?
Residents are being encouraged to come along to a diabetes open evening to talk to experts and find out more about the illness. Health professionals at NHS Swindon will be at the event to offer specialist advice and give out information about services provided in the town.
Elaine Lorton, Head of practice based commissioning for HS Swindon, said: "We estimate that around seven per cent of Swindon residents have diabetes and don’t know they have it. The open evening is an idea event to come along, talk to us and learn more in a friendly and relaxed environment. Depending on the type of diabetes a person has, it may take a long time for symptoms to develop or as with diabetes in pregnancy develop quickly. Diabetes is a condition that should be taken seriously; however, it can very often be successfully self-managed and planned around daily life.”
